Ok, folks…. here’s the information you need for Sunday’s event taking place at The Cross in Moseley. If you’ve registered, we’ll see you there – if not there’s more information below about how to follow us online.

Schedule

2pm – 3pm Room available for set up only*

2.50pm Doors open. That way, you can bag a seat and grab a beer before we kick off.

3.30pm Moseley Barcamp commences. Intro, housekeeping and shizz. Broadcasting starts online and on Rhubarb Radio.

3.35pm Panels commence

Attendees and Panellists – What to bring

A means of connecting to teh internetz (there is free wifi at the venue, but 3G dongles are always welcome) if you want to interact through live tweeting, blogging or other clever tricks you have up your dongle sleeve. Hashtag for the event is #mbcamp. Aggregated tweets will appear on our Cover it Live bloggy thing. We should have some spare power strips, but not many – so please bring your own if possible as we can’t guarantee we can supply you with the magic and wizardry of electricity.
Those who’ve agreed to bring equipment – please can you be there early so we can have everything set up by no later than 3.00pm. We fancy a beer before it starts!
Speakers – if you’ve said you’re running a panel, please bring whatever equipment you need. There’s a pre-installed projector and screen for speakers, and we’ve had the kind offer of additional projector/screen from Jon Bounds for Alex’s artsing.

Putting it out there and interacting if you’re not there

Hashtag is #mbcamp if you’re tweeting about us. Follow us on Twitter @moseleybarcamp. If you can’t join us in person, use Twitterfall to set up a custom search for the #mbcamp hashtag and get interacting or follow the Cover it Live bloggy thing. Want to just sit back and listen? Watch out for us publicising where to find the audio feed from Rhubarb Radio shortly – it’s the best way to keep up with the action as it happens if you’re not at the event.

We emailed everyone who’d registered to date last week about whether they would require meaty or veggie food, as we’re hoping to feed you! Responses have been fab, but there are still 34 of you are yet to respond – and 34 of you will go hungry or have to fend for yourselves if we’ve no response by Friday 5pm. Email us or leave a comment to denote your preference, please. Thanks for your co-operation! Anyone who’s registered within the past week will already have had the option to specify their preference so don’t need to inform us again.

Information for Panel Hosts – Timings

A few folk have asked about the timing for panels. Well, to put it simply, you’ll have about 5 funky fun-packed minutes to tout your talk, then it opens up to the rest of the attendees to discuss, debate, give feedback and generally chip in. This is a two-way dialogue.

We’ve had excellent interest in panel hosting so the chances are we’ll be running a pretty packed schedule, so please try wherever possible to keep your talk to about 5 minutes (Ms. N. Pugh is the exception to the 5 minute thang, and for a good reason) . The amount of dicsussion generated from panels at WxWM easily made panels run to anything between 15 and 30 minutes, so hopefully some mad science will kick in and we should fit everything in.

You’ll make the event, not us. This is your event. We know you’re going to do a simply sterling job!

Moseley Festival Update

The smashingly lovely David Butlin has provided me with further information about what’s happening as part of the wider Festival antics….

“This year’s Moseley Festival, held in Moseley, Birmingham, is the biggest ever featuring over 80 creative and community events in more than 50 locations over 10 days between 26 June and 5 July 2009.

The annual festival, which has being running for over 30 years, brings together creative and artistic expression from Moseley and surrounding areas, and includes visual arts, live classical, contemporary and electronic music, theatre and dance. In addition there are contributions from many of Mosley’s local businesses, restaurants, galleries and public houses that are hosting special events and offering discounts during the course of the festival.

The busiest Moseley market day of the year, and traditionally the busiest day of the festival, takes place on Saturday 27 June and combines the FARMA award winning Moseley farmers market and a special Moseley Festival street fair featuring arts, crafts and community stalls. As well as the markets on Saturday daytime there will be African drumming, morris dancing, a guided Moseley walk and a ‘flash mob’ event.

Other festival highlights include a workshop celebrating the music of Handel, inducing a concert in one of Moseley’s most attractive churches, St Mary’s; a four-day beer festival at The Prince of Wales pub; an arts trail taking in studios, houses and installations around central Moseley and a drama, dance and music festival at Queensbridge School.

The Cross pub is hosting a cutting-edge social media seminar organised by the Birmingham Bloggers group; The Prince of Wales Pub is holding Rocky Horror Show parties (including live performances); Rich Batsford’s music by candlelight returns to St Mary’s Church; The Patrick Kavanagh hosts evening of burlesque with Scarlet Fever and a live performance by rising star Ella Edmondson; and the Fighting Cocks hosts ‘ginger fest’, an event celebrating the ginger gene.

The slightly deranged swan-like antics are ongoing

On the surface, all may have looked a little quiet over the past few weeks. Of course, this hasn’t been the case. We are like the cliched swan – poised and gliding on the surface, legs going like the clappers beneath the surface.

We’re a little over 3 weeks away now until Moseley Barcamp, and will be releasing further details about panels over the coming weeks. We think we’ve got quite an exciting mix of speakers with some great topics being covered, so hope that the event will have something for everyone!

Update from Barcamp Towers

It’s been a busy, but productive, week here at Moseley Barcamp towers. A fairly impromptu meetup on Wednesday night spun out some cracking ideas and allowed a more lingering look at the venue. Another meeting on Thursday saw three of the four-strong organisation team getting their heads together to move elements of the project forwards. Not that we’re meeting freaks, or anything, but we’re doing a brunch tech-recce tomorrow – with all four of us together.

Registration is open for attendees – and it’s really exciting to see some familiar and new faces who’ve already signed up to be part of the action! If you’ve not yet signed up, then get registering.
